I am on vacation with Candyce’s family to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California, Mexico. I’m typing from the hotel coffee bar, overlooking the where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. The resort we are staying at is quite spectacular. The entire complex is built on the cliff that springs up from the edge of the beach. I am at the lobby now, which is the highest point above the ocean, probably twenty stories. I’ll write more about this later, but it’s taking too much work to write about it now.
This might be my first pure vacation since I traveled to Africa when I was on The Real World five years ago. I do travel quite a bit, and on the rare occasion that I have family close, I try to stay a couple extra days before coming back to Phoenix.; I am using my vacation days, but I am not entirely; detaching myself from work. I’ll be on the phone or the computer for at least an hour each day trying to take care of something at work. But down here in Mexico, the Internet is way expensive and my cell phone does not get a signal. So I’m as detached from work as you can get.;
My routine back home is cool and exciting, and I do miss it. Whenever we are at an awkward moment in this vacation, I’ll imagine a week from now when I’ll be riding to work. Robo will be driving while I sip my Einstein’s coffee as we talk all the things we need to do when we get into the; studio: build new sections, interview bands, write a new special feature, update pages, call back video game companies… I do enjoy all of that. But it’s good to totally divorce myself from my work because I need it. I’ve worked myself to the bone. Just typing makes me feel like I’m at work. It’s time to get back to vacation.
