Speaking at a Pep Rally at My High School
Daily Life, Travels and Adventures August 25th, 2000Today I spoke at my high school’s pep rally. Going back to high school to make a cameo is something I vowed never to do. I used to sit in classes while grads came back to say hi to the teachers and be seen walking through the halls. (What losers!)
But I stood in the same gym I graduated from three years ago. As third in my class, I gave a speech about leaving home and getting a life (nothing new). So the irony of coming to that same spot and talking about how I got a life was pretty darn satisfying. Its not like I was shouting, “look at me now,” but more of, “cool, I did it!”
The applause rang from the spastic kids in Kindergarten and the solid claps from the seniors. It’s weird talking to such a diverse group. After the speech Little Benny, Meredith, my dad (the principal), and I walked around saying hi to the middle schoolers. It was funny to see how stoked they got when we stepped into their classroom. I just love making an impact.
Coming back to the mountains with Meredith makes home all the better. Already we are reminiscing about her first time up here when we figured out we really like each other. The way we act around each other you would think we’ve been together for a year. She is so comfortable with my family and friends.
It is my weekend vacation, so I am going to close this laptop and enjoy my company. I think this convergence thing could really happen
