When I used to watch “My Two Dads” as a kid, I was in love with a plush couch that looked like a 1930s hot rod. They sat on the wide bumper, rested their arms on the fenders kicked forward, and leaned against the plush grill. I had never seen anything that cool. I would lay in bed at night and think about it.

I am an eBay kind of guy. It’s like walking through a gallery pop culture. I like looking at vintage modern furniture, cool cars, and art.

I clicked and watched a guy buy a Plymouth Prowler (a new 1930s hotrod) with 2500 hundred miles on it for $30k. That’s $10k less than it is worth. That hurt, man. That really hurt.

But I found a 1955 Chevy Couch. The ’55 Chevy was a legend, just like it’s ’57 little brother. It’s the trunk hollowed out and stuffed into a couch. It’s being sold from Orange Country, CA, which is a daytrip from Phoenix. I could fit the couch in the PT Cruiser with not much of a problem. I have a ton of friends out there, and we could go surfing.

It’s not cheap, but it is timeless. Why get a couch and a hot rod, when you can have both? This is art, furniture, and a car…that I can have for a lifetime. But, that’s only if some design freak like me gets it for ten dollars more.

05-21-02 Update:

I had the road trip planned to go to the beach and buy the couch until I found a ’57 Chevy couch with more chrome. It is uncanny how much I like chrome. I am drawn to chrome like I am drawn to women.

Then I found a ’59 Cadillac couch. Man! So I decided not to bid, with hopes of finding a better buy. You’ve got to research your market before you dive in and buy a car for your living room.
