Whoa! This is crazy! Just now a cop pulled up next; to my; car and asked me if I needed any help. I explained my; car was overheating, and I had to pull off the side of the road to; let it cool; off. He told me he was in pursuit of someone, and he had to leave. So he tore out of here like a man on a mission.

So that’s my story. As I type, I am sitting on the side of the Interstate waiting for my car to cool off. It’s 110 degrees out, so opened up all my windows (sunroof, side windows, and my hatchback) to get a breeze coming in my car. I’m just sitting in the median of a four-lane highway watch the mass of cars slowly edge their way home.

I’ve never had my car overheat before. I was just sitting in traffic and I heard a scream under my hood. Steam bellowed out from under my hood. I made my way to the edge of the road to assess the damage. I looked pretty pathetic, my hand propping up the hood as the steam blasted in my face. You always see that “screwed guy” on the side of the road, and today I’m that guy. I guess it was my turn.

You wouldn’t believe how loud people have their music. In less than a minute, I’ve listened to the same song on the radio through three different cars. This is kind of fun because I can keep my eyes open and see cool cars. So far; there was a slick ’72 Chevrolet; C-10, a clean late-model custom truck, and….well, that’s been. I’m just trying to make lemonade with my lemons.

Well my car didn’t get much better. I had to stop twice on my way home and hose down the engine. I’ll let it cool off tonight and see what happens.

Well I was just stupid enough to try to make it to work this morning. I forgot to keep my eye on the temperature gauge, and I almost trashed my engine. It cost $400 to put in a new radiator and thermostat and I’m running again. (That’s with a $40 ‘Real World’ discount.)

I could get upset about spending that money, but what do I expect? If it was $200, I would complain then. If I made it into work without a problem, I’d complain that I took me an hour and half to get home from work last night. I’m convinced that people will complain no matter what. I don’t want to be one of those people.

I’m just happy my car works.
