Being in Magazines
Daily Life October 15th, 2004I’m on a flight from Phoenix to Nashville. I’ve spent the last hour or so talking to guy; who works for Holley.; He saw me looking at Rod; and Custom magazine, and he asked me if I liked old cars.; The conversation went on for a while.
I was flipping through the pages of the magazine when I saw a page dedicated to honoring young car builders.; This month’s; award went to Donny Starck–the guy who built my car. How cool is that?; I buy a car on eBay, and here I; am seeing; my; world wrapped; into the pages of magazines.
I’ve been involved in magazines since I; was 18, when I worked for YOU! Magazine in Los Angeles. After the Real World, I’ve been in a lot of teen magazines. Then came a rush of; Christian magazines. I never thought somehow I’d be connected with a car magazine. I have a feeling this will be happening more often.
This kind of stuff means so much to me. It’s not about fame or notoriety, but; it’s about engaging the world around you. I lived most of my life in rural America where nothing ever happened. And now, I am out where everything; is happening. I can make a difference.
That’s why I want to start a magazine for Life Teen. Once version2 of lifeteen.com is kicking butt, that’ll be my next project. Bring it on!
